Let them praise His name in the dance: let
them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp. Psalm 149:3
“Comfort, O comfort My people,” says your God.
“Speak kindly to Jerusalem;
And call out to her, that her warfare has ended, that her
iniquity has been removed. Isaiah 40:1-2
Shalom, and Welcome to the
Beit Yeshua
website. God is restoring the "listening"
church to its Biblical Hebraic Roots and this website shows
the numerous areas of ministry we've been involved in over
the years.
My name is Curtis. My wife,
Carolyn, and I have been public school teachers for 30+
years since we graduated from college in the mid-1970s. I taught 8th grade Math until I retired in
December 2004. Carolyn taught high school Spanish
until she retired in 2013.
When we
first graduated from college, we wanted to get involved in a
local church and since we were both school teachers, church
leaders just naturally assumed we’d want to work with kids
and youth, which we did for a number of years.
Eventually God opened the door that brought us into Praise &
Worship Ministry and I served as Minister of Music for 20+
years at several churches in Catawba County, NC.
It was during this time that
God began to open our eyes to the fact that dance was
scriptural and that it needed to be restored to the church
as an integral part of our praise and worship experience.
Our eyes were opened to the beauty of the Biblical Festivals
and how they so specifically paint a portrait of Messiah
Yeshua (Jesus). He also planted in our hearts the necessity
to connect with and pray for the people of Israel - the
descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Since those days in the mid
1980s, we’ve had the opportunity to start four Israeli Folk Dance troupes
that have met in churches in Catawba and Lincoln Counties in North Carolina.
We've taught dance at Zion
Center for the Worship & Arts at Resurrection Dance
Ministry in Charlotte, NC and ministered in dance at
churches and other venues throughout the western part of the state.
Beit Yeshua (House of Salvation) was organized as a small
Hebraic-Roots fellowship in August 2001 to give those in the
Catawba/Lincoln County area an opportunity to learn about
and observe the Biblical Festivals, learn about the Jewish
heritage of Christianity, and to pray for and bless Israel
and the Jewish people. The group has grown and gone through
some changes over the years - including several changes in
leadership. Originally, I asked Greg Lilge to
help co-lead the group. Greg was with us until 2005 when he
relocated to South Carolina. At that time, Doug Williams
stepped up and agreed to co-lead the group. Doug co-led the
group from 2005 until 2016 when he went "home" to be with
the LORD. After Doug's death, Paul Miles and Chuck Anthony
stepped up to more prominent leadership positions filling
the leadership places vacated by Doug. When Paul passed away
in January 2017, Curtis & Chuck carried leadership of the
group.
Beit Yeshua currently meets twice monthly on
Friday evenings to enjoy Shabbat, study & discuss the Torah,
pray, worship & dance, fellowship and eat together.
Our meeting schedule revolves around the Biblical Festival
Calendar but we also meet in a larger venue when observing
some of the Biblical
festivals in order to give others in the surrounding cities,
counties and states an opportunity to join with us.
As the years have passed, the Lord has "expanded our
borders" as we've had the opportunity to (1) teach
Jewish-Roots classes & seminars, (2) share Passover Seders
at various churches & the local college, and (3) lead
Israeli Folk Dance at conferences in Charlotte & Black
Mountain, NC.
Thanks for checking out our
web site. Hope you find something here that ignites a
spark within you to understand & experience all that God has
for you. Blessings
in Messiah, Yeshua.
