A New Year Begins
2009 is definitely going to be a year for choosing where you stand on a number of spiritual and political issues - Israel is one of those issues. This is what Yahweh says about Israel ... Genesis 12
1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred,
and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great;
and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee:
and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.Zechariah 2:8
... for he that toucheth you (Israel), toucheth the apple of His eye.There is no middle or neutral ground concerning Israel. If you're not blessing, praying for, loving, and standing with Israel - you're standing against her.
Chuck thought that New Years Day would be a good time to proclaim that Yahweh is Lord of the city of Lincolnton. So at 7:00 AM on January 1st, in 19 degree weather, Chuck, Doug & Paul took their shofarim and headed for the main square in downtown Lincolnton to declare God's authority over the city.

After marching around the square in downtown Lincolnton, they got in Paul's van and headed over to Covenant Bible Church. Covenant is a wonderful church with a people who have a desire for loving and serving the Lord, but even there the shofarim speak to the spirit world saying "God will have His way in this place."

We've been meeting as a Jewish Roots group for 7 years. Our first meeting was in August 2001 in our home in Catawba. Over the years the group has grown and changed. For the past few years we've been referred to us as the Lincolnton Jewish Roots Group and the Shabbat Group. Toward the end of 2008 we decided it was time to pick a name. Several names were suggested and Beit Yeshua was the one that was eventually selected. What does Beit Yeshua mean? Yeshua was the Hebrew name that was given to Jesus at His birth. Beit Yeshua literally means, "House of Salvation". For 2009 we'll be proclaiming the love of Yeshua to all who will listen, while teaching others how important it is to bless Israel and the Jewish people.

We discussed the recent Israeli War with Hamas in Gaza: "The IDF soldiers seem to have a huge spiritual hunger and are unified in not only asking for prayer but also praying themselves, wearing tzitzits (prayer tassels) into battle and carrying the book of Psalms with them. Tent synagogues on the battlefield have no less than 10 sessions every morning, and it is reported that soldiers who’ve never attended synagogue are now praying with tefillin. There are reports daily of amazing miracles of protection and Divine direction during the battle."
PURIM - The Feast of Esther

We gathered on Friday, March 6th, to celebrate the Biblical Feast of Purim - also called the Feast of Esther. The shpiel (Yiddish for "play") for this year was entitled PURIM WARS and was a science-fiction parody based on the book of Esther, but with a STAR WARS theme.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away ...
It’s sometimes called the Feast of Lots … often called the Feast of Esther … but is usually called the Feast of Purim. Esther 9:28 These days should be remembered and observed in every generation by every family, and in every province, and in every city. And these days of Purim should never cease to be celebrated by the Jews, nor should the memory of them die out among their descendants.
Curtis & Carolyn directed and Narrated the "spontaneous" play. Lines weren't memorized, but were read spontaneously when they were called up to play a part. Most of the cast hadn't even seen the play before hand. Myrl (Below Right) created her own "Princess Leia/Esther" costume complete with "ear-muff" styled hai. Curtis helps Joe with his Star Trek Costume. Months before the play, Curtis spent time looking for costume ideas and masks on Ebay.

Joe was King James T. Kirk'shuerus (Ahashuerus) and Myrl was Lei-Esther (Esther).
Lei-Esther: My family and friends call me Hadassah, but in Shushan you have to be careful not to let just “everyone” know that you’re Jewish, so I prefer to be called Lei-Esther.
King James T. Kirk’shuerus: *Yabba Dabba Do! **Who loves you, baby? Every story needs a hero…a real “He-Man”. … John Wayne, Luke Skywalker and The Terminator - all rolled into one! That’s me. NARRATOR: If you haven’t figured it out yet, that is the King - James T. Kirk’shuerus! He’s rather distinguished looking - don’t you think? But don’t let those good looks fool you - he doesn’t have an ounce of “royal” blood in his veins. He “bought” his position ….he used to be a stable-keeper! King Kirk’shuerus has chosen Shushan as his capital because of the Jewish craftsmen who live there. He wants a palace modeled after that of the Jewish King, Solomon.
NARRATOR: This is King James T. Kirk’shuerus’ wife, Queen Vashti. She’s the one with royal blood, from the family of King Nebuchadnezzar…she’s his granddaughter. The King’s only real claim to the throne stems from Vashti, and they both know this very well.

Morde'Chai KENOBI: Yes, I’m Jewish. I’m Morde-Chai Kenobi. Some folks call me Obi-Wan Kenobi, but I’ve not really been called that in a "long time" except by my cousin Lei-Esther. I’m from the Tribe of Benjamin and many of my neighbors even call me Ben - Ben Kenobi! Still, I prefer to be called Morde'Chai. We Jews have never asked for trouble, but the Force seems to continually bless us with an ample supply.
NARRATOR: Every story has a villain. In this one, it’s this guy…Darth-Haman! He’s from the nation of Amalek. Maybe you remember when the Jews left Egypt and were crossing the wilderness … they had to fight against the people of Amalek. As long as Moses’ hands were raised, the Children of Israel prevailed, so Aaron and Hur held up Moses’ arms and they defeated the people of Amalek. Later the Prophet Samuel told King Saul to smite Amalek and utterly destroy all the men, women, children, and cattle … everything. (1Samuel 15:3) Well … King Saul didn’t listen! This Darth-Haman is an Agagite, an Amalekite, of the descendants of Agag. Does that tell you anything? If King Saul had listened to the Force, they wouldn’t be having to deal with Darth-Hamin now. We’d be wise if we always listened to HaShem!

NARRATOR: *Nip it! Let’s move on…This is Darth-Haman’s wife, Zeresh. They say she’s much smarter than her husband…even able to speak several languages, but she’s a little stubborn and refuses to speak her husband’s native language. Hmmm! Sounds like these women in Shushan have a lot in common.

ZERESH: I’m Zeresh, Darth-Haman’s supportive, loving and “beautiful” wife. We have 10 wonderful sons. We’re so proud of them. Perhaps you’ve heard of them? Their names are Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Bizarro, General Zod and Parasite. There’s also Joker, Riddler, Penguin, King Tut and Mr. Freeze. Our boys are so well known that their names appear in many well-known Shushan publications and journals! They even have their pictures on the walls of the local post office! I’m one proud Mama! They’re just like their dad, real chips-off-the-old-block.
NARRATOR: We also have with us tonight the King’s trusted guide and all around “Wiseman”. He’s old and very wise. Not too good looking - but oh so wise. His name is Yoda. (Below) 13-year-old Sam was asked to play the part of Yoda. He was given a copy of the script before the play and asked to work on Yoda's vocal expression. Sam did a WONDERFUL job. All those years of community theater experience showed off his tremendous talent.
Yoda: Looks and *size matter not, ... Look at me. Judge me by size, do you? And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally He is.”

NARRATOR: And last, but definitely not least, is the number 3 man in King’s Android Police Officers - they usually just call him C3PO. He carries out all the laws of the kingdom - decree announcin’s, arrestin’s, jailin’s, shootin’s, and hangin’s. He doesn’t have too much “upstairs” and has a face that only a mother could love. But he’s thorough with his job.

Lei-Esther: I can’t! You know anyone who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned will be disintegrated. The only exception to this is for the king to extend his scepter to him and spare his life. Thirty days have passed since I was last called to go to the king. I might be the Queen, and I might be “hot” but I don’t know if I want to take that risk!
Morde’Chai KENOBI: Do not think that because you are in the king’s house that you will escape. If you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will come from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to this royal position for such a time as this? *The truth is out there and King James T. Kirk’shuerus needs to know the truth.

Then let your C3POs robe the man that you desire to honor, and lead him on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming what this man has done and how the king delights to honor him.
King James T. Kirk’shuerus: Great idea, Darth-Haman! *Make it so! Go at once, get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested … for Morde’Chai KENOBI … the Jew.

NARRATOR: That same day King James T. Kirk’shuerus gave Queen Lei-Esther the estate of Darth-Haman. He found out that Morde’Chai KENOBI was Lei-Esther’s guardian, and had him brought into the palace.
King James T. Kirk’shuerus: Morde’Chai KENOBI, here is my signet ring. You shall be second in rank only to me.
NARRATOR: Lei-Esther again pleaded with the king, falling at his feet and weeping. She begged him to put an end to the evil plan of Darth-Haman, which he had devised against the Jews.
King James T. Kirk’shuerus: You know a law cannot be revoked once it has been written. But you may write another law in my name on behalf of the Jews and seal it with my signet ring.
NARRATOR: The king’s new law granted the Jews the right to assemble and protect themselves; to destroy, kill and annihilate any armed force of any nationality that might attack them and their women and children; and to plunder the property of their enemies.

Vision For Israel
& The Joseph Storehouse Conference
The third annual VISION FOR ISRAEL Conference was held March 13 - 14, 2009 at Heritage International Ministries in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Barry & Batya Segal, founders of the Humanitarian Aid Organization based in Jerusalem, were in town for an evening to Praise, Worship and Teaching. Speakers for the Conference included Barry Segal, Dr. Michael Brown and Scott Volk. Barry gave an update on the ministry and recent war in Gaza. It was a WONDERFUL weekend.
The Vision For Israel Conference never disappoints! It was awesome this year and truly gave us a view into the heart of God concerning Israel. It also allowed us the opportunity to make new friends and visit with old ones. Each year the feeling of family and connection to Vision For Israel becomes stronger.
Beit Yeshua had 17 in attendance at the Conference.

This message continued to be confirmed this weekend. It's time to stop being "wall flowers" and "bench sitter" - to clean up our lives, "put on the whole armor of God" and get about HIS business. We need to become more visible, more vocal and speak the Word of God with boldness. There's an old saying, "All that is needed for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing". It's time for us to speak up concerning God's love for Israel. It's time for us to speak out against anti-Semitism and Replacement Theology.
Have you heard that the US has pledged $900,000,000 to the Palestinian Authority - that will ultimately end up in the hands of Hamas? It's easy to do nothing - it's harder to put actions to our beliefs.

The Catawba County Home School Co-Op meets at Gateway Baptist Church on Sandy Ford Road in Newton, NC, once a week for E-Day. As part of a Biblical Festivals Class, I was invited to teach Israeli Folk Dance to a group of the students on Friday, April 3, 2009.
