Shabbat Meetings

Beit Yeshua meets twice monthly for Erev Shabbat (Friday Evening) in a "home-group" format in Lincolnton, NC.  During the year, some meetings will be celebrated in the Family Life Center of Covenant Bible Church for additional space and attendance - including Purim, Pesach, An Evening Honoring Israel and Sukkot.  All other Shabbat and Festival meetings will be in Doug & Lynda or Chuck & Janice's homes in Lincolnton, NC.  Both types of meetings are very special to us.  It's wonderful to have the larger festival meetings and be able to include our friends & family from other congregations and churches due to the extra space for seating and dancing.  We also value the intimacy of the small group and the opportunity to continue with our Torah discussion and midrash.  Bring a kosher snack (no pork or shell fish) and come join us.

The Biblical festival of Purim recalls how Queen Esther was willing to sacrifice her throne and even her life for her Jewish kinsmen.

The 2012 play will be a NEW "Gilligan's Island" parody entitled
"Esther-Ann - Here on Shushan Isle"

The year's play tells the story about a group of people stranded on Shushan Isle  and how they deal with everyday life.  Up first, their ruler, Professor Ahashuerus,  looks for a new ruler-ess after he dumps his wife, Ginger Vashti.  It looks like the lovely Jewish girl Esther-Ann Mordechai is headed for a hook-up with the Professor, if the evil millionaire Haman Howell III and his wife Zeresh (also called "Lovie") don't have all the Jews killed on Shushan Isle before she can do it. With the help of her cousin Skipper Mordechai, and his side-kick Gilligan, they'll do everything they can to protect the Jews on Shushan Isle.

Pesach / Passover is one of the seven Biblcal festivals of the Lord, mentioned in Leviticus.  It is the first of the Spring festivals, usually occurring in March or April each year, on Nissan 14.

Pesach was first instituted in Exodus 12.  Through Moses, God had commanded that blood from a lamb be smeared on the top lintel and two side posts of the door.  At midnight, the LORD passed through and killed the firstborn of all the Egyptians - even the firstborn of all their beasts.  But when he saw the blood on the lintel and two side posts of the doors of the Jewish homes, the LORD passed over that door and they were spared.

One part of the observance of Pesach is to eat unleavened bread for seven days. Leaven is symbolic of sin and nothing with leaven is eaten.

When Yeshua lived on Earth, He participated in the Passover Seder each year.  The Christian sacrament of Communion was originally part of the Passover meal.

RSVP:  There is no cost to participate in the Passover Seder with us, but reservations are required and seating is limited to 200.  Call or email now if you'd like to join us.  The evening will conclude with a covered-dish meal. Bring a drink and kosher covered-dish  and come join us.

Yom Teruah/Rosh Hashanah is a two-day festival occurring in the Autumn (September or October) of each year, on Tishri 1 & 2.  Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish "Civil" New Year and occurs on September 19 and 20, 2009, and is celebrated with the sounding of the Shofar (Ram's horn).  Even though it is a two-day festival, Yom Teruah is considered one long day.

Yom Teruah, also called the Feast of Trumpets, is one of the seven major festivals of the Lord mentioned in Leviticus 23. As the shofar is sounded on Yom Teruah, we are reminded of the "catching away" of Believers prior to Yeshua's/Jesus’ return. Themes of this two-day festival included the Marriage between Messiah and His Bride as well as the Coronation of the King. Come dressed in white (if you can) and learn more about this remarkable Feast of the Lord.  Activities in the past years have included Tashlich, Praise, Worship & Dance, and a dramatic presentation of the parallels between the Ancient Jewish Wedding and the Wedding of Yeshua (Jesus) and His Bride of Believers. Why dress in white? You're going to a wedding! Hopefully when the evening is concluded you'll have a better understanding of your own Bride-Relationship with Yeshua.

Yom Kippur, or Day of Atonement, occurs on Tishri 10 and is the most solemn holiday of the Biblical calendar year, occurring in the Autumn of the year in September or October.  This year Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Friday, September 17th.

The only prohibitions for Yom Kippur is that you don’t eat or drink.  It is a day of fasting.  Only on Yom Kippur would the High Priest enter into the Holy of Holies to plead for the people.  On Yom Kippur, God’s judgment is sealed. The entire world is judged this night for the upcoming year.

Because of the Yom Kippur fast, there will be NO food at this meeting

Sukkot (pronounced “sue-coat”) is a Hebrew word that means “booths” and refers to the temporary dwelling the Jews lived in on their forty year journey from Egypt to the promised land. The first day of the 7-day festival is the 15th of Tishrei, occurring in September or October of the year.  This year the dates of Sukkot are September 23 - 29, 2010

The Bible commands us to “dwell” in the sukka for seven days. Dwelling implies eating, sleeping (if weather permits) and study.

Hanukkah is an 8 day festival occurring in November/December each year, celebrating God's deliverance of the children of Israel from the hands of the wicked Antiochus Epiphanes and the Syrians.  After defeating the Syrians, the Jews cleansed the temple but there was only enough of the holy oil that was used in the giant menorah to burn for 1 day.  Tradition says that a great miracle happened and it burned for 8 days until more could be made.

CONCERTS

CHERNOFF, JOEL (Lamb)

Joel Chernoff is a Jewish Believer,  American singer-songwriter and a founding member of the music group LAMB.

Joel was born in August 1950 and was raised in Cincinnati in the 1950s and 1960s as part of one of the very few Messianic households in the country.  He and his younger brother David are the sons of Martin & Yohanna Chernoff, the founders of Cincinnatti's Beth Messiah Messianic Congregation.  He considered himself a "Believer", but it wasn't until the Jesus Movement of the late 1960s that Joel had a life-changing experience while he was a student at the University of Cincinnati.

Joel had been raised on hit parade music and at 16 he found that he had a gift for writing songs.  He played keyboards in a five-man band that became popular at churches, youth rallies and other community events throughout his teens.  In 1972, the year he graduated from the university, he formed the group LAMB.  LAMB, whose music soon came to be known as simply Messianic Music, quickly became one of the premier groups of the new movement that was sweeping the country.  Recording on national labels, as well as their own independent imprint, LAMB recorded eight studio albums and two live albums over two decades.  With Lamb's break-up in 1992, Joel focused his energies on several prominent organizations within the Messianic Jewish Movement.  He is currently the General Secretary of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA) and also president of the International Messianic Jewish Alliance (IMJA).  In 1996 the MJAA "Joseph Project", a chariatable organization, was founded.  Joel chairs the project which provides food, clothing and other necessities to poverty-stricken Israelis.

In 2005, LAMB was re-formed with fellow Messianic artist Ted Pearce, who is not Jewish.  Joel's brother, David Chernoff, is a Messianic Rabbi at Congregation Beth Yeshua in Philadelphia.  Joel's daughter, Sharon Chernoff Wilbur, is also a singer and is the wife of Messianic recording artist Paul Wilbur's son, Joel Wilbur

Marty has been called a modern day psalmist.  Using melodic and acoustical/classical arrangements with his piano playing and orchestral work, Marty draws also from a number of musical influences including his Hebraic background.  Over the years, Marty has collaborated with Christian recording artist Debby Boone on a number of occasions, including on the lyrics to "Song of Deliverance" which appears on Marty's album "Sanctuary".  In 1991, Marty performed at the Billy Graham rally in New York's Central Park.

KLEIN, PHILIP STANLEY

Philip Stanley Klein was born to an Orthodox Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York.  His grandfather was the president and Rabbi of Beth Emmanuel, an Orthodox Synagogue in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.  After his formal musical schooling and a concert at Carnegie Hall, Philip toured as the keyboard player with a national musical recording group and wound up in Nashville, Tennessee. He wrote for Frank Sinatra's music company, performed with gold record celebrities and finally settled in Atlanta, Georgia in 1977.  Shortly after becoming the father of a beautiful daughter, Stephanie, he suffered the devastating loss of his wife in an automobile accident. Philip and his daughter lived with much anguish until the Lord sent an angel of mercy.  Her name was Sheila and she reached out to this Jewish man and his daughter. A nurse by profession, she sensed their inner pain and was able to lead Philip to the only "true" healer, Yeshua (Jesus). As a Gentile Believer, Sheila showed them how to release their heavy burdens and to be free in their Jewish Messiah.  They soon began attending Congregation Beth Hallel, a Messianic Jewish Synagogue in Roswell, Georgia. Later that year, Philip and Stephanie joined Sheila and her children, David and Colleen in marriage. The Lord blended two broken families into one whole family in Him. They enjoy their Jewish roots and heritage and celebrate all the Biblical feasts and holidays.  Philip is now praising the Lord with the talent that He gave to him. His personal testimony is moving and powerful. His lyrics and melodies will stir you deeply, bring tears to your eyes and healing to your spirit. Listen to one of Philip's CD's and you will become a fan forever.
