Shabbat Meetings

We've moved all festival observations and celebrations of Beit Yeshua to the Family Life Center of Covenant Bible Church for additional space.  All other Shabbat meetings will be in the homes of Doug & Lynda Williams or Chuck & Janice Anthony of Lincolnton, NC.  Both types of meetings are very special.  It's wonderful to have the larger festival meetings and be able to include our friends & family from other congregations and churches due to the extra space for seating and dancing.  We also value the intimacy of the small group and the opportunity to continue with our Torah discussion and midrash there.  Bring a kosher snack and come join us. Please, no pork, jello or shell fish.

ROSH HASHANAH / YOM TERUAH
"The Feast of Trumpets"
2010

Rosh Hashanah is a two-day festival occurring in the Autumn (September or October) of each year, on Tishri 1 & 2.  Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish "Civil" New Year and occurs on September 19 and 20, 2009, and is celebrated with the sounding of the Shofar (Ram's horn).  Even though it is a two-day festival, Rosh Hashanah is considered one long day.

Rosh Hashanah, also called the Feast of Trumpets, is one of the seven major festivals of the Lord mentioned in Leviticus 23. As the shofar is sounded on Rosh Hashanah, we are reminded of the "catching away" of Believers prior to Yeshua's/Jesus’ return. Themes of this two-day festival included the Marriage between Messiah and His Bride as well as the Coronation of the King. Come dressed in white (if you can) and learn more about this remarkable Feast of the Lord.  Activities in the past years have included Tashlich, Praise, Worship & Dance, and a dramatic presentation of the parallels between the Ancient Jewish Wedding and the Wedding of Yeshua (Jesus) and His Bride of Believers. Why dress in white? You're going to a wedding! Hopefully when the evening is concluded you'll have a better understanding of your own Bride-Relationship with Yeshua.

YOM KIPPUR
"Day of Atonement"
2010

Yom Kippur, or Day of Atonement, occurs on Tishri 10 and is the most solemn holiday of the Biblical calendar year, occurring in the Autumn of the year in September or October.  This year Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Friday, September 17th.

The only prohibitions for Yom Kippur is that you don’t eat or drink.  It is a day of fasting.  Only on Yom Kippur would the High Priest enter into the Holy of Holies to plead for the people.  On Yom Kippur, God’s judgment is sealed. The entire world is judged this night for the upcoming year.

Our OBSERVANCE

When: Friday, September 17, 2010
Where: Doug & Lynda Williams' Home
Time:  7:00 until

SUKKOT
"The Feast of Tabernacles"
2010

Sukkot (pronounced “sue-coat”) is a Hebrew word that means “booths” and refers to the temporary dwelling the Jews lived in on their forty year journey from Egypt to the promised land. The first day of the 7-day festival is the 15th of Tishrei, occurring in September or October of the year.  This year the dates of Sukkot are September 23 - 29, 2010

The Bible commands us to “dwell” in the sukka for seven days. Dwelling implies eating, sleeping (if weather permits) and study.  We customarily gather at the home of Doug & Lynda Williams to build a group sukka, although all are encouraged to build their own sukka at their home also.

Hanukkah with Beit Yeshua, Lincolnton
"The Feast of Dedication"
2010

Hanukkah is an 8 day festival occurring in November/December each year, celebrating God's deliverance of the children of Israel from the hands of the wicked Antiochus Epiphanes and the Syrians.  After defeating the Syrians, the Jews cleansed the temple but there was only enough of the holy oil that was used in the giant menorah to burn for 1 day.  Tradition says that a great miracle happened and it burned for 8 days until more could be made.

Bring your Hanukkah menorah (if you have one), as well as a kosher snack and come join us
Please, no pork, jello or shell fish

PESACH
Passover Seder
2011

Pesach / Passover is one of the seven festivals of the Lord, mentioned in Leviticus.  It is the first of the Spring festivals, usually occurring in March or April each year, on Nissan 14.

Pesach was first instituted in Exodus 12.  Through Moses, God had commanded that blood from a lamb be smeared on the top lintel and two side posts of the door.  At midnight, the LORD passed through and killed the firstborn of all the Egyptians.  But when he saw the blood on the lintel and two side posts of the doors of the Jewish homes, the LORD passed over that door and they were spared.

One part of the observance of Pesach is to eat unleavened bread for seven days.

When Yeshua lived on Earth, He participated in the Passover Seder each year.  The Christian sacrament of Communion was originally part of the Passover meal.
